Cavallo Libero for Trumpet and Wind Ensemble
Cavallo Libero for Trumpet and Wind Ensemble
Cavallo Libero was written for my friend Bill Dunn, and in it I attempt to encapsulate the kind of muscular, shimmering, showstopping energy that Bill exudes in his performing. The style is intended to evoke the drama and bravado of the so-called “Spaghetti Western” era of film, and this is reflected in the title: Cavallo Libero translates to “free (or unbridled) horse.” Originally written in the spring of 2023, a revised and edited version was completed in September of the same year.
